Why I love remote controls...

All that talk yesterday made me wonder when was the last time I picked up a TV Guide while standing in a checkout line? Pretty sure Richard Nixon was President and I'm not kidding. TV Guide was a household staple for years and if God forbid, Grandma forgot to buy one my job was to stand by the TV changing channels (all 13 of them) until Poppy found something he wanted to watch and then I would be released to return to whatever I had going on at that time. Poppy having a TV Guide in hand made my life much simpler as all I had to do was listen for my name to be called and dial up the correct channel. Saturday mornings had real cartoons like Heckel & Jeckel, Tom & Jerry and Popeye, not the animated commercials we have today. Saturday mornings also meant Roy Rogers, Dale Evans with Trigger, Buttermilk and Nellie Belle the Jeep. Good always won and bad always wore a black hat. The Lone Ranger & Tonto was also a Saturday favorite. Weekday programs that I loved were Ding Dong School with Miss Frances, Captain Kangaroo, Howdy Doody, Miss Shari & Lambchop and a Central Indiana favorite Cowboy Bob and His Buckaroos. I think it's fair to say Cowboy Bob was equally popular with the Mom's as Cowboy Bob had curly brown hair, big blue eyes, and a crooked little smile. Cowboy Bob was purdy. This post might make you think I miss the TV Guide. I don't but I sure miss my Grandma and Poppy.
